What we can learn from Barack Obama

In our digital world, passwords and our  ̶  sometimes careless  ̶  handling of them is a common target for unwanted access and a potential security risk. Many of us have experienced this, privately or at work, sometimes with unpleasant consequences. Barack Obama once discussed this topic in a highly entertaining speech at Standford University. His words emphasize the scope and importance of the whole issue. Here is a short video clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgJPZkvWshE

Individual password guidelines offer flexibility and security

At Plunet, we take password security very seriously. Our customers  ̶  this applies to translation agencies as well as language departments at institutions and industry companies  ̶  attach great importance to maximum password security in their daily work with Plunet BusinessManager.

The Plunet password guidelines can be customized for all user types: internal and external resources, vendors, and end customers. This means that you can set the minimum length of passwords and the duration of password validity separately for each group. Users are reminded about password expiry and when to change their password via an automatic e-mail notification, which can be scheduled as required.

Anyone can forget their password from time to time. In Plunet, it is possible to activate a second level of security for forgotten passwords in the form of a security code/captcha. The login data are only sent to the user once the security code has been entered. This prevents unauthorized access by bots.

In the Plunet Admin area, it is also possible to define which elements a valid password must contain. The available options are uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. Furthermore, Plunet provides the option of disabling the automatic saving of passwords in your browser.

Secure and user-friendly: Two-factor authentication and Single Sign-on with Plunet

Companies that want to be even more secure can activate two-factor authentication in Plunet. With this additional level of security, an automatic e-mail is sent to the user after they enter their user name and password. The e-mail contains a unique security code that can be used to access the system. This is particularly useful for high security projects. The function can also be activated temporarily for internal resources, vendors, and customers, as well as for project teams (project managers, translators, customers). Another part of the Plunet security portfolio is the Single Sign-on option. The benefits of this are huge time savings and a high level of security at the same time. Initially, only a single authentication is required and the password is transferred only once. Instead of a series of insecure passwords, only this one will be remembered and used. This means that the password can be more complex and much more secure as a result.

Language service providers that value high standards when it comes to IT security have a powerful and experienced partner in Plunet. You can relax and concentrate on your daily business and be sure that your security is guaranteed.
